Ice canyon
Spectacular, but easy tour along the frozen river and waterfalls, visiting ice caves and experiencing ice in all shapes and colors.
We move through narrow passages, along big rocks, sometimes in the canyon, then again high above. We go by foot and lead you safely. For everyone with a love for adventure and the beauty of nature. First tour 27 December!

Moon and stars
An evening walk beneath the starry sky and in the moonlight. We explore on foot or on snowshoes, allowing our eyes to adjust to the darkness before discovering constellations and the ancient stories associated with them. A magical experience that quite literally opens your eyes to the wonders of the night. Headlamp and snowshoe rental included. From 27 December!

Not so many people live in the mountains of Norway year around like us. It is okay to have questions about winter!
Do I need to be an experienced skier to enjoy winter in Jotunheimen?
No, you do not need skies! Enjoying our tours and winter in Jotunheimen is fully possible without skiing. With us you experience the winter landscape with snow shoes, something which is very easy and just like summer hiking. We provide those, fit them for you and show you how to use them in the start of our tours. Our ice canyoning activity is a winter hike, you just need warm winter boots.

How cold is it in winter and what should I wear and bring?
Be prepared for temperatures of 5-20 degrees below zero Celsius. As the air is rather dry, it often feels warmer.
Dress warmly and in layers. Use wool as an inner layer from top to toe, use a second and third layer for more warmth, either fleece or more wool, and make sure you can protect yourself from wind with your outer jacket. Bring one more layer in your backpack - and leave good with space in the backpack, so you can adjust your clothing when you get warm!
Hat and mitten are crucial, so are warm winter boots. You might use normal mountain boots if they are warm enough with good space for two layers of socks, a thin woolen inner sock and a thicker on top.
Rental of snowshoes is included in our snowshoe tours. The snowshoes get fixed under your winter boots.
Are your activities suitable for beginners?
Yes, as long as you can walk, you can join! We focus on nature experience, story-telling and sharing of knowledge, so we often make short stops during the tour.
If you are unsure, take contact. We can also offer private tours to fit individual wishes and needs!
Where do the tours start and how do I get there?
Most of our tours start at one of the accommodation providers between Lemonsjøen and Gjendesheim. You’ll find the exact meeting point in the booking details.
Unfortunately, there is no public transport in our area during winter, so you’ll need your own car to get here. Some accommodation providers offer pick-up from Otta railway station.
Already in the area but prefer not to drive too much on winter roads? Get in touch! We may be able to arrange a tour starting right where you are staying.
What happens if the weather is bad?
This is a minor issue for us - we adjust our tours to weather and snow conditions. As we have been living in this area for more than 20 years, we are very good at that.
We can choose a more protected route in case of strong winds. Rain is no problem as it is usually snowing, which just gives a wonderful winter-feeling, but does not make us wet.
We promise to give you a comfortable tour. If that is not possible due to a special weather incident, we cancel and send your money back.
Is it possible to see Northern Lights?
Yes, it is possible to see the Northern Lights in Jotunheimen, but sightings are never guaranteed. The best conditions are clear, dark skies and strong aurora activity. Our area has very little light pollution, making it a wonderful place to enjoy the night sky, whether or not the Northern Lights make an appearance. And who knows – you might be lucky!
